MEET TOM BOATRIGHT

Tom is currently the Director/Coach of the Aurora Flyers Track Club. Raised in the western suburbs of Chicago, Tom has spent the majority of his life in the communities that he services today. Tom played on the East Aurora High School varsity football, basketball and track teams for three years. He was an All-City football selection and made honorable mention All-State. He helped lead his basketball team to the State Finals in 1969. The team took 4th place and returned to state in 1970. He went to the State Finals in track in 1969 and 1970 in the Long Jump, 100, 200 yard dash and the 800 relay. As a senior he was named Aurora's "Athlete Of The Year".

Bears 1975 Rookie Roster
Upon graduation he attended Northeastern State College in Oklahoma. While on a full football scholarship, Tom led the nation in punt returns as a freshman running back. Unfortunately, in his 2nd year his mother died unexpectedly of a heart attack. He returned home to assist his elderly father raise his younger brother and sister. He immediately got hired on at Commonwealth Edison. While working for ComEd he played semi-pro football for the Rockford Rams where he lead league with touchdowns and yards per carry. After playing semi-pro for two years he was offered an opportunity to tryout with the Chicago Bears. He was on the 1975 rookie roster with Walter Payton but did not make the team. He returned home to continue his employment with ComEd eventually retiring with 30 years of service. During this time he began his journey in reaching out to the youth of the community. He assisted with the Simmons Junior High School girls and boys basketball teams, helping the girl’s team to win the city championship in 1985. In 1986, he helped coach the Rosary Catholic High School girls track team to the state finals. In 1988 and 1989 he helped coach the boys and girls basketball teams. The boys made it to the state finals and the girls finished 29-2. Also, in 1988-89 he helped coach the Rosary girls track team to the state finals. He repeated taking that team again from 1992 thru 1996. In 1994 he helped coach the newly opened Cowherd Middle School 9th grade girl’s basketball team to the city championship with a 19-1 record. In 1995 he helped coach Aurora Central Catholic School girls track team to the state finals winning the 100 meters.
In 1988 he started up the Aurora Flyers Track Club with ten athletes. Today the Flyers are a nationally ranked track and field club with over 100 athletes. Throughout the years Tom has coached and qualified hundreds of athletes to compete in the Jr. National Olympics. In 2009, he had 70 athletes qualify for the National Championship. Currently he has over 15 athletes who took 1st place as national champions. He has helped over 30 athletes go on to colleges all over the country. In 2004 he started up is business TrainRight with Boatright, training athletes in football, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and track and field. In 2010, he started working with Founder/CEO Shaon Berry of Junior Rank Football combine as the speed coach training 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
